On Friday, October 17, 2008, children from across Southwest Missouri will convene on the Missouri State University campus in order to meet the authors and illustrators of some of their favorite books.
Sponsored by the Children’s Literature Festival Steering Committee and the Missouri State University English Department, the goal of the festival is to improve literacy by motivating children to read and write. Since 1981, children have enjoyed the unique and memorable experiences of making personal connections with famous writers and illustrators.
Registration is required to attend the festival’s daytime sessions. Children are $2.50 for half a day and $5.00 for the entire day. Adults are $8.00 for half a day and $10.00 for the entire day. Contact a children’s librarian at any of the Springfield Greene County Library branches for more information about festival registration, or download the registration form from the Festival's web site.
The entire family is invited to attend a free autograph party on Friday, October 17, 2008 from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the Plaster Student Union Ballroom West. Get your favorite books autographed, chat with the authors, and enjoy the Author Slam event where a few festival participants entertain the audience by reading or acting out one of their books. A second autograph party will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Borders book store on South Glenstone.
