    Twenty-one of the 45 planned botanical gardens are in place in Close Memorial Park, where a 12,700-square-foot Botanical Center is being built. Gardens devoted to dogwoods, flowering shrubs, flowers, native plants and turf grasses delight the eye. Friends of the Garden Vice President Bob Kipfer will review plans for the Botanical Center.

Roosevelt," by actor/scholar Patrick McGinnis, will reflect how he faced the daunting task of alleviating widespread suffering and began restoration of the nation's economy. Will Rogers, portrayed by Oklahoma scholar and actor Doug Watson, will join FDR on stage to reflect on the president's politics.     Enjoy an evening celebration with Richard Peck in honor of his book, "A Long Way from Chicago," the Big Read 2010 selection. The event will include a presentation by Peck, "From Grapes of Wrath to Grapes of Mirth," along with a performance by the Queen City Sound Chorus of Sweet Adelines International.The History Museum for Springfield-Greene County will co-sponsor a School Days Experience in the Children's Department along with crafts and find out what Springfield was like in the 1930s from Local History librarian John Rutherford. In addition, enjoy a reader's theatre performance of an excerpt from "A Long Way from Chicago" presented by the Willard South Elementary After School Actors.
