Groundskeeper 
This part-time, seasonal position at the District's city branches is scheduled for approximately 20 hours per week, budgeted for 30 weeks annually. The job pays $7.61 per hour and will be posted until filled.
Essential Functions
- Cuts and maintains lawns.
- Rakes and maintains leaves, plants, flowers, trees, shrubs, mulch and other landscaping at Library city branches.
- Operates mowers, weed trimmers, and other lawn care equipment.
- Operates Library vehicles to move equipment between branches with a trailer.
- Uses lawn care chemicals.
- Picks up trash in yard and parking areas.
- May be responsible for light snow removal.
- Assists maintenance department with occasional moving furniture, equipment and supplies as needed.
Education/Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid "Class E" driver's license or ability to obtain one.
- Good driving record and current insurance.
- Experience and/or knowledge of basic planting and transplanting, landscaping, and use of lawn maintenance equipment and chemicals is preferred.
Skills/Job Knowledge
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to operate power equipment including, a zero radius lawn mower, weed trimmer, etc., in varied weather conditions and on uneven or steep ground.
- Ability to work responsibly without direct supervision.
- Knowledge of appropriate use of lawn chemicals, lawn care tools, etc.
- General knowledge of plant types, proper placement, care, propagation/dividing, transplantation, pruning, etc.
- Basic knowledge of care and maintenance of mowers, yard care equipment, and vehicles.
- Ability to safely transport equipment between branches using a Library vehicle and trailer, including loading and unloading mowers.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs., bending, kneeling, walking, raking, and shoveling in varied weather conditions.
- Ability to perform duties while wearing protective clothing and equipment appropriate for job such as sunscreen, hearing protection, gloves, eye protection, etc.
- Ability to work outdoors in direct sun and heat for extended periods of time.
- Ability to interact pleasantly, constructively and cooperatively with library patrons and staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Contact
- Occasionally works with other maintenance personnel.
- Routine contact with library staff.
- Occasional contact with library patrons, and community members.
Supervision
- Supervised by Facilities Manager.
Physical Demands
- Performs bending, squatting, kneeling, crawling, climbing, twisting and reaching both to ground level and overhead, hold and grips objects, subject to working in awkward positions and periods of prolonged walking, sitting, or standing.
- Lifts and carries up to 75 lbs. of equipment or materials.
- Performs daily tasks requiring mobility, strength and stamina.
- Works outdoors for extended lengths of time in direct sun, heat, or cold conditions.
Working Environment
- Will perform work outdoors with exposure to dust and pollen; subject to a variety of extreme weather conditions.
- Susceptible to mechanical and electrical hazards associated with equipment.
- May be exposed to hazardous chemicals and other safety hazards due to noise, fumes and odors.
Miscellaneous Requirements
- Must be able to pass a security background check, if applicable.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, if applicable.
- Must provide current motor vehicle record and show proof of current insurance.
