Between Friends Gift Shop Volunteer Coordinator/Assistant

This part-time position at the Library Center is scheduled for approximately 24 hours per week The job pays $8.73 per hour and will be posted until the application deadline of March 19.

Primary Function

Assists the Between Friends Gift Shop retail Manager in the volunteer staffing of the gift shops, and in the selling of Library related, or general lines of merchandise.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises volunteers engaged in sales work, and assists with the taking of inventories, reconciling cash with sales receipts, keeping operating records, and preparing daily transaction records for accounting process. Also assists with creative merchandising displays.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of volunteers for the gift shop.
  • Works closely with the Library Volunteer Coordinator to screen, place, recognize, and keep records for gift shop volunteers.
  • Is the Between Friends Gift Shop contact for the Friends of the Library organization and attends meetings to provide gift shop updates and solicit feedback.
  • Is responsible for keeping store displays current, tracking inventory, and moving merchandise between storage areas and gift shops.
  • May have contact with vendors and be asked to attend gift market shows.
  • Coordinates bank deposits and other bookkeeping duties when manager is away.
  • Must have transportation to travel between the Library Station and the Library Center.
  • Must be able to follow library policies and procedures.

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required, but some college is preferred.
  • Retail sales or management experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with volunteers is preferred.

  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of retail sales, including creative merchandising techniques.
  • Excellent supervisory, human relations and problem solving skills.
  • Effective planning and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively listen and respond to suggestions or concerns.
  • Skilled in computer applications related to retail operations.
  • General office skills - typing, filing, data entry, routine correspondence.
  • Computer and keyboard skills, 45 wpm.

Supervision

  • Reports to the Between Friends Retail Manager.
  • Supervises volunteer staff in accordance with the Library's policies and applicable laws.

Contact

  • Extensive contact with the general public, staff and volunteers.
  • Works closely with the Friends of the Library organization.

Physical Demands

  • Performs occasional bending, squatting, kneeling and reaching from floor level to 6 feet in height.
  • May require standing for extended periods of time.
  • May require lifting of materials up to 50 lbs.

Working Environment

  • Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general library/office or retail environment.

Miscellaneous Requirements

  • Must pass a security background and check.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and proof of insurance on personal vehicle.
