If you haven't recently visited grants.gov--you should!
Grants.gov is making it easier than ever to find and apply for federal grants. The website has many new updated tools for searching as well as many helpful tutorials to get you on your way.
This is a great checklist to get you started with what you will need to find and apply for grants.

Your first step is to apply and receive a DUNS number so that you can begin the application process. This process can take up to 14 days so take some time to apply for your number well in advance of a grant deadline. The user guide leads you easily through the process.
